Subject Gangdong-gu District Goes All-out to Improve Busy Line 5

Gangdong-gu District (District mayor Lee Jung hun) said it plans to make efforts in various ways, including increasing subway trains and realizing operating ratio, to improve congestion on Line 5 after an on-site inspection at Kangil Station on March 27 (Sat).

Until now, residents of Gangil-dong, such as Godeok-ri & Park 2~3 and Gangil River Park 8~11 complex, had traveled by bus to Sangil-dong Station for an additional 5~10 minutes, but the opening of Gangil Station allowed them to use the subway by walking or short transfer.

However, most sections of Gangdong-gu, including Gildong, Myeongil-dong, Godeok-dong, Sangil-dong, and Gangil-dong, operate only half of the total number of times, which is the actual half of the route.

In addition, around Sangil-dong and Gangil-dong, where large residential complexes are concentrated, the number of passengers has increased since 2018 when the relocation of the reconstruction complex began in earnest.

In particular, if the current Godeok Reconstruction Complex (15,769 households) is completed, and the move to Godeok Steel District 1-3 (12,107 households) and Gangdong General Industrial Complex (16,000 employees) is completed, it is expected to more than double the demand in 2011.

Therefore, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Metropolitan Transportation Corporation will continue to make recommendations to related agencies such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Metropolitan Transportation Corporation to adjust and increase the ratio of Hanam Geomdan-san and Macheon-gun.

In addition, the district said it is actively discussing with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to establish additional bus stops near the exit of Gangil Station to facilitate transportation for residents using Gangil Station.

Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu District Office, said, "The opening of Gangil Station has made it easier to use the subway, but there are some areas where residents are expected to feel uncomfortable during rush hour."
