Gangdong-gu, Seoul, has completed the design of the "Region Welfare Center for the Disabled" to provide comprehensive welfare services, including rehabilitation treatment for the disabled. Earlier this year, it announced on the 31st that the beginning of the year would rise.
Gangdong-gu District selected the winning work through a design contest for the district general welfare center for the disabled in the region with the largest population of the disabled on the 24th. The winning work is the "Region Welfare Center for the Disabled" of the building office of Sumbi, which was designed as a space for the disabled and the non-disabled to efficiently interact.
The low floor is constructed to be open, and there are many facilities available to non-disabled residents in the area, such as community gardens and book cafes. In particular, the open low floor has space for disabled people to safely ride in the car, and outdoor rest areas are located on all floors.
A district official said, "The delicacy of considering the accessibility and safety of the weak was well evaluated." "The design of eco-friendly zero-energy architecture to minimize energy requirements also received high marks."
Construction of the welfare center will begin at the end of this year after completing design services in April. It has a total floor area of 4,553㎡ and three basement floors to six ground floors, each floor will be created as a space for the disabled, such as an underwater rehabilitation exercise room, a multi-purpose rehabilitation room, a physical training room, and a temporary care room, and a book cafe and a public parking lot. It is scheduled for completion in December 2023.
"The establishment of Gangdong-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled is expected to significantly improve access to welfare services for the disabled in Cheonho, Amsa, and Seongnam," said Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu Office.
