Subject "In 2023, population of Gangdong-gu is 550,000… We will lead Seoul by establishing self-sufficiency, welfare, and green cities."

"By 2023, Gangdong-gu will be the autonomous district that leads Seoul," said Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu District Office. Gangdong-gu is the only autonomous district in Seoul where the population has increased for two consecutive years. The population is expected to reach 550,000 by 2023. The head of the Gu Lee plans to make Gangdong-gu a △ self-sufficient city △ welfare city △ green city suitable for 550,000 population city.

Lee, the head of the district office, expected the realization of a self-sufficient city on the 12th of last month, saying, "If the population becomes 550,000 city, the fiscal self-reliance will be greatly improved, with local tax revenues similar to Songpa-gu." As of last year, Gangdong-gu's financial independence (the proportion of its own income among general accounting budgets) stood at 26.3 percent, below the average (28.4 percent) in 25 autonomous districts in Seoul. Songpa-gu's financial independence level, which he targeted, is 37.6%. Lee, the head of the district office, said, "If Godeok Biz Valley and Gangdong General Industrial Complex are opened from 2023, the economic map of Gangdong will be changed anew." In order to resolve the gap between regions and classes noticeably, the realization of welfare cities will also be steadily promoted. Since taking office, Lee has already invested 150 billion won in living SOCs in old downtown areas such as Cheonho, Amsa, and Seongnae-dong. This year, the project focused on making Guchon-myeon-ro, the oldest road in Gangdong-gu, a street that wants to walk. Lee, the head of the district office, confidently said, "The underdeveloped area of Cheonho-dong, which served as a sick finger, will turn into a bright place to stay." He then said, "We will focus on investing in cultural and sports facilities such as the Gangdong Cultural Foundation and the second district sports center in Gangil-dong during the remaining term to resolve the imbalance in the region."

Lee said he wanted to make Gangdong-gu a green city in the long run. "The green area of Gangdong-gu is environmentally excellent, with 44 percent of the green area," he said. "We have to take green cities as our vision and develop them. In January last year, he set up "Green Energy Department" in the district and is focusing on projects related to smart situations and green energy.
In addition, he plans to create a dementia family support center within this year. "It's hard for families with dementia patients to go on a day trip, let alone a vacation," he said. "We want to create a short-term protection facility for dementia patients for a day or two so that they can rest for a while." It also applied for special grants to the government to create two e-sports game venues.

Meanwhile, Lee is also famous for communicating directly with residents in the Internet community. "We are joining 17 apartment communities in Gangdong-gu and communicating directly to get closer to the new residents," he said. "We will maintain this communication method to the end with the intention that the head of the district should bear any criticism from residents."
