Subject Gangdong gu, “Should reduce congestion in Line 5”…proposed actualization of raising the number of vehicles and ratio of travel

Gangdong gu, Seoul, announced on April 1st that after site inspection in the moring rush hours on Line 5 Gangil Station which was started to run last 27th, they will propose actualization of raising the number of vehicles and ratio of the travel to improve traffic congestion in Line 5.
Gangil dong’s residents including Godeok Liaen Park 2~3 complex and Gangil Liver Park 8~11 complex can use subway easily due to Gangil station’s opening.
However, because line 5 runs divided into Hanam Geomdansan line and Macheon line and most of Gangdong gu’s stations including Gildong, Myeongildong, Godeokdong, Sangildong, Gangildong run in half number of the whole run number of line 5, they can be called half line.
In Surroundings of Sangil dong, Gangil dong where large scale residence complex are located, after 2018 when rebuilt complex moving in was started, the passengers are increased. Due to the extension of line 5 (Hanam line) and open, the congestion is much more intensified and requirement about rasing the number of vehicles and shortening of the vehicle’s gab is consistently proposed.
Finally gangdong gu is planning to propose Seoul and Seoul Metro to tune and raise the number of vehicles in accordance with real using need of Hanam Geomdansan line and Macheon line which are now running in ratio 1:1.
Besides for the convenience in transferring of residents who use Gangil station, Gangdong gu established bus station in the surrounding near the Gangil station’s exit and is actively discussing with Seoul for establishment of new bus which runs between Godeok Gangil 3rd, Gangil district and Gangil station.
Lee Junghoon, the Minister of Gangdong gu, announced that “Though there are many advantages due to Gangil station’s open, resident’s inconvenience in morning rush hour’s due to traffic congestion is also expected. We will do our best for improvement of resident’s convenience.”
