Subject Gangdong-gu newly operates Nephron 4 for circular resource recycling

Gangdong-gu (Head of the Gangdong-gu district office, Lee Jung hun) establishes and operates a circular resource recovery robot, Nephron 4, in front of the main gate of Gangdong-gu Community Center in order to establish a smart recycling collection system.

AI can/PET unmanned reclamation machine, Nephron 4, can automatically categorize and condense cans and pet bottles by AI sensor when they are put into the input port. It is a resource circulation robot in the form of a vending machine that can compress and collect bottles, and it is made by applying artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

As compensation for collection, 10 won points can be accumulated per can and pet bottle and bottles can be injected up to 200 per person per day. If the accumulated points are accumulated more than 2,000 points, they can be transferred to a personal account through the Superbin website (http://superbin.co.kr) or the Superbin app (application) and can be used as cash.

Starting with the Nephron 1 at Sungil Elementary School, Gangdong-gu District has already established and operated Nephron 2 and Nephron 3 in the ruins of Amsa-dong at Samter Neighborhood Park.

In February 2021, the cumulative number of users reached 5,100, and the accumulated points exceeded 2.2 million won in total. More than 300,000 cans and PET bottles were recycled, contributing to the virtuous cycle of resources.

Thus, the district established Nephron No. 4 at the Gangdong-gu Community Center to further improve the awareness of the virtuous cycle of resources.

Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu District Office, said, "The Gangdong-gu Community Center is currently closed, but it is expected that many residents, including visitors to the community center, will use Nephron in the future." He also mentioned, “The district will continuously strive to inform the significance of circular resource usage and provide more chances for the residents to participate in.”
