Subject Gangdong After School 2021

Due to the unending Corona virus pandemic, Seoul Gangdong-gu and its mayor decided to open "2021 Gangdong Afterschool" toward elementary, middle school, and high school students regarding their academic progresses and job research. The main purpose of this "2021 Gangdong Afterschool" program is to shorten the gap in academic progresses among students, which has worsened in the corona pandemic era.
Recently, as the proportion of online school at home instead of actually going to schools has increased, or due to the change of the student's studying environments, academic gap among students has widened even more. Also both the student and their parents' psychological discomfort and anxiety regarding academics has become more intense than ever since the Corona pandemic has started.
As a solution, Gangdong-gu has prepared free counselling regarding their academics, helping students with writing and editing their self-introduction essays, and supporting their interview preparation towards low-income families who feels pressure towards all these preparations for college and future jobs.
Since last year till this March, the after school program has supported 34 students of 15 schools in Gangdong-gu, of 408 counselling and preparation for college or school admissions. Moreover, the mentor program extension towards the elementary school has received a positive view among the citizens of Gangdong-gu.
Furthermore, to stop the dispersion of the corona virus and to finally end the serious pandemic affecting our lives, Gangdong-gu has constantly continued the online school program, and they are planning to add more diverse ways of online schooling through phone calls, face-time and even more.
