Subject Making a safe way home from school! Gangdong-gu implementation of the Walking School Bus for Children

Block traffic accidents and various sources of crimes on the way home from school!
Traffic safety instructors are assigned to 23 routes in 10 schools as elementary school starts

Gangdong-gu District (District mayor Lee Jung hun) will implement the "Walking School Bus" to help children from families who have difficulty accompanying their children to school safely return home in time for the start of school.

In order to prevent traffic accidents and various crimes on the way home from school, the Gu has deployed safety instructors to schools participating in traffic safety guidance projects to share children's way home from school.

Last year, with the participation of eight elementary schools, 19 routes were operated, and 90 children helped them get home safely from school, which received great response from parents.

This year, 10 elementary schools will participate and expand to 23 routes. The target is the first and second graders of elementary school, and one instructor will be assigned to children about eight or more children on the same direction to share the way home from school. The operation period is from March to December and is not operated during the vacation period.

Students from participating schools can participate at any time during the semester and apply through the relevant schools.

"Children's traffic safety guidance project is effective in protecting children from traffic accidents and various crimes on their way home from school," said Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu District Office. "We will gradually expand the participating schools and routes every year as the participants are satisfied."
