Gangdong-gu is concentrating the reduction of municipal waste with the aim of zeroing landfill directly. The city has been pursuing the waste reduction program since 2015 in accordance with the plan for the management of the amount of waste to be disposed of at the public treatment facility for zero waste landfill. Based on the amount of municipal waste generated in 2014 (40,105 tons), it has shown a reduction rate of more than 10% every year. Last year, it reduced the amount of waste of 13,3%, which became 13.4%. This year’s project is centered on voluntary participation of residents. In order to solve the environmental problems, it is important to reduce municipal waste, because it is impossible without participation of the residents. Major initiatives include the control of recycled products and food mixtures in bulk bags, the promotion and separation of household garbage through unauthorized speculation, the intensified enforcement of unauthorized speculation areas in unauthorized speculation areas, , use of disposable products by public institutions and related organizations, use of plastic bags by using traditional market carts, and so on. In particular, residents can voluntarily participate in garbage reduction and recycling through joint inspections and campaigns through the management of 128 sites in unauthorized speculative areas, the management of waste disposal in the case of moving in and out, and the management of wastes reduction campaigns. We will strengthen the enforcement of crackdowns on unauthorized speculation through crime prevention CCTV and the enactment of environmental clearing house envelope realignment system, and establish a comprehensive response system to reduce the amount of municipal waste by operating a Separation Emission Practice Group consisting of 11 departments. In addition, it plans to encourage the separation and discharge of recycled products from business sites where many residents like to visit PC rooms, jjimjilbang, and movie theaters, and to reduce waste and recycle resources through eco-friendly policies that recycle coffee residues and fallen leaves.
