Subject Godeok-cheon Energy Maru

'Godeok-cheon Energy Maru(Godeok-dong 37-5)', which is run by Gangdong-gu (Mayor Hae-sik, Lee) is receiving great public attention after implementing the measures to counteract climate change such as fine dust, heat wave, and the policy to convert energy for low carbon green growth. A total of 4,586 residents visited the facility last year after it was opened in October 2016. 'Godeok-cheon Energy Maru' is a place where you can learn about the principle how the five types of renewable energy are produced such as solar, wind, bio, water, and power, and think about new energy problems of the future by directly experiencing activities like energy circulation etc. In particular, it is playing a big role for growing young people to understand the importance of the eco-friendly energy, save energy and implement green living as it focuses on the experiment programs that help thinking energy problems with oneself with natural and intimate, not on lecture-based learning programs. Godeok-cheon Energy Maru programs are customized for each age group. For children(aged 6 to 7), they can hear of the stories easily written about the renewable energy using a puppet of the natural energy. Finding treasures of natural energy can make these children learn about saving energy in their daily lives. Students in elementary school (grades 1 to 3) are offered a team-based experience program. They can learn the characteristics of each energy by experiencing the facilities, and increase the engagement and interests through competition programs such as Golden Bell Quiz. Students in the upper grades of elementary school (grades 4 to 6) perform the mission through cooperative team-based learning. After learning the characteristics of each energy, they can create energy villages through board games then understand the concept of energy independence, and have fun and achievement through collaboration with friends. Middle school students directly plan and implement energy independent villages in the same conditions as reality. As a team, they can plan to create energy independent villages, realize the principles of energy production, and learn the importance of cooperation and discussion required to solve environmental problems. In addition to this, a suitable technology experience program to create a solar fountain and capacitor, LED light, and so on, targeting upper grades of elementary school and middle school students, and the creative puppet play called "Sorry, polar bears" in celebration of the weekend of the climate change are in huge popularity. Lee Hae-sik, head of the office, said, "We need to make efforts to change the social and economic foundation based on fossil and nuclear energy that cause social conflicts to renewable energy." and "We will do all our efforts to operate Godeok-cheon Energy Maru, the head of energy education focused on the site and regional centered, so that future generations can develop environmental friendly lives as conative and active leaders of change. Godeok-cheon Energy Maru program runs at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. two times a day. You can apply for it through daycare center, kindergarten, and school classes or clubs under a class unit(20 to 30 students), or at the Department of the clean environment of the Gangdong District Office(02-3425-5942) until December 15.
