On April 12, Gangdong-gu (Chief Lee Hae-Shik) launched a 'Independent living house for the disabled' to support independent living of the disabled. 'Independent living house for the disabled' is an independent living space designed to make people with disabilities become more acquainted with basic knowledge and behavioral tips necessary for daily lives before they enter society. The disabled people will live alone in a self-supporting living room for one night and two days. They will learn basic living habits such as how to use simple electronic devices such as TVs and computers, how to cook, and dining etiquettes, Also, support workers(Independent living coordinators) will support them to develop social skills and self-reliance. The overall operation of the house will take place in the "Haetenen Yangji Disability Independent Living Center", which has signed a business agreement with Gangdong-gu in September last year. Currently, the number of disabled people who have applied for the self-supporting living residence is about 30, and 4 to 5 people with disabilities will have a chance to experience independent living each month through pre-peer counseling and establishing individual plans. Lee Hae Shik, the chief of Gangdong-gu said "This self-supporting living is meaningful in that disabled people become new members of the community. I will try to find various support measures and aids for the self-reliance of people with disabilities through the management of housing for the disabled ".
