The launching ceremony and orientation for Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School with Gangdong-gu self-directed learning center was held on Saturday 10a.m., April 7, 2018 at the middle hall of Hanyoung Foreign Language High School.
In Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School, mentors, who are 1st and 2nd graders of Hanyoung Foreign Language High School, and mentees whose age ranges from 5th grade of elementary school to 3rd grade of middle school, who are recruited by Gangdong-gu self-directed learning center do mentoring man to man.
On that day, every mentor students and mentees, and about 130 parents attended, and the Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School got started with the opening speech of Mr. Huh, an English teacher of Hanyoung Foreign Language High School.
Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School president Yu-an Byeon and Soo-mi Hong hosted the event.
Following the celebrating speech of Gun-Sung Huh, a Hanyoung Foreign Language High School teacher and the president of Sae-bit torae Youth Volunteer Association and Young-Ae Choi Sae-bit torae Youth Volunteer Association president, mentor-mentee one-to-one connecting ceremony took place, as their name called.
Soo-Mi Hong gave an announcement about introduction of Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School and Mun-Hee Lee gave another present about specific activities students should do in this club.
In addition, Mr. Huh gave an orientation of overall story, schedule, and advices about Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School.
In Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School, as mentors and mentees are close in age, it is easy to form sympathy and mentors can give real and practical advices about curriculums they’ve already experienced, as they go to same school. Also, they study together and mentors can give counseling to mentees’ troubles about school life, relationships, and future career based on their own experiences.
Through these activities, mentoring will be priceless to both mentors and mentees as it is not just a teaching but they make growth together by communicating and interacting, and also it is not only studying of school subjects but also sharing each other’s experiences.
Hanyoung Foreign Language High School Mentor School with Gangdong-gu self-directed learning center takes place every Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Hanyoung Foreign Language High School. One and half an hour a week may be too short to achieve something. But if you make plan and carry it into action with endurance for 10 months, you sure will be able to get close to your goal.
