Subject Gangdong-gu kids in town, board festivals held every Saturday

Seoul Gangdong-gu (Lee Hae sik, the head of District office) works on a program ‘Board festivals for Kids in Town’ every Saturday, which supports better communication and entertainment between friends, families and neighbors for elementary and middle school students.

This program was suggested by an elementary student in June 2017. He made an opinion that young people play a lot of time with smart phone alone and they need to spend more time to share happiness with friends and families through ‘Board game’ that many people altogether play with.

Gangdong-gu examined the process with related department and Gangdong-gu Youth Assembly and selected it as a Gangdong-gu youth participative budget business of the year 2018, and the program was finally allowed to carry out from April.

Wonteogol senior citizen community center, located Myungil2-dong, is going to share the 2nd floor with young people willingly and the board game company ‘Ddonggo Attic’ undertakes management operation.

This program progresses from 10 am to 12 pm every Saturday. It takes place twice a year, the first term from April 7th to June 30th and the second term from September 8th to November 24th. Hot season, from July to August, is excluded.

Youth board game meetings (three times) and board game party accompanied families (once) will be held every month, and town board game festivals are planning to run every half-year.

Participants can apply through Youth Board Festival, Naver Band (band.us/@gangdongi), on a first-come first-served basis from 9 am on Monday to 6 pm on Tuesday every week.

Lee Hae sik, the head of District office, said “it is a meaningful program that listened to children and teenager’s opinions as a kids-friendly town Gangdong-gu” and told “it is a mere start but a good opportunity for the community to interact with each other and I will try to make better society.”
