Subject Special internship program in glocal society

These days there are a lot of TV programs that shows foreigners experiencing Korean culture. Since Korea is a country that the percentage of foreigners is not high, foreigners encountering our culture is a very attractive sight. Gangdong-gu has held a special program for international students. This is a ‘global internship’ that students can participate in the internships program and experience Korean culture and understand it. Foreign students experiencing Korean culture was planned in order to bring global atmosphere in our service. This internships activity was held in winter vacation, and 133students from 33 countries applied for it. As a result, total 8 students from Malaysia, Kenya, Hungary, and China were selected as the new internship members. For 4weeks, students worked in the library, comic street, Gangdong ribbon center, and the local children center. They held speaking lessons for children and collected great policies about abandoned dogs. They also participated in the process of selecting people translating the wall pictures in the comic street. For their great adaptation students participated last year gave them advice. They took a tour of Gangdong-gu and had time understanding the place. After 4weeks of internship, all the students agreed that it was one of the most precious activity they did in their entire life. Some students told that they will continue volunteering in the place. Some students said that they feel like Korea is their second hometown. Not only the students who participated in the internship program but also the workers in the center had priceless time with the students. In this glocal(global, local) world, the experience seems to have been a great time both to the students and the workers. Of course it must have been a great time for the local residents, too.
