Subject Gangdong Innovation Education Project-"Exploring Our Town"

Seoul Gangdong Songpa Educational Support Office and Gangdong District Office are promoting a 2018 Gangdong Innovation Education Project called "Exploring Our Town."

"Exploring Our Town" is a program that explores various experiences in Gangdong-gu for local third grade elementary school students. On April 3, a total of 126 classes (about 3,000 people) will start, beginning with Myunggok Elementary School. Two classes will be held per day. Excursions to the village are held on weekdays except Monday, from April to November, and the operating hours will last for 4 hours starting from 9:00 am.

There are six operating courses, and each course will contain 3 or 4 site visits each day. For example, the first course on Tuesday includes a visit to Gil Dong Ecological Park to observe aquatic insects and plants, Gangdong CCTV-integrated control center to learn about responsibility for crime prevention and safety, Seoul Gangnam area Dongmyeong, and Kungfu Manga Street, where the works of the artist Choongwol are displayed. If it rains on the field trip day, the course will be composed mainly of indoor activities.

The Gangdong Songpa Educational Services Office provides buses to students when visiting the town, and also provides a yellow dust-prevention mask (KF-80) in preparation for fine dust in the air. For the course to be an effective experience, two guides accompanying each class will teach the class with the workbook made by town guides themselves. In addition, a travel insurance for the school safety mutual aid association is included in case of an accident.

The program can be considered exemplary in that the ministry, government, and academic department of Gangdong are cooperating. Gangdong Songpa Educational Support Service has been planning and promoting a village tour program since July last year.

Through this visit to various locations, students will be able to improve their understanding of the towns by exploring and experiencing hands-on activities. In addition, the establishment and operation of a visiting plan for villages was promoted jointly by the ministries, administrations, and academia, which allowed for a harmonious governance to happen. They plan to continue to do so in the future.
