These days, an entertainment program starring foreigners is gaining great popularity. This is because it’s of great fun to see how Korea is reflected in the eyes of foreigners and foreigners surviving through cultural crashes. Our daily lives that we often overlook are viewed as a priceless experience for foreigners. There are many factors that are viewed in new lights through foreigners. For the first time as a gu-unit, Gangdong-gu hosted a special program in last summer and winter. Nowadays, the number of foreign students living in Gangdong-gu has been increasing since last few years. Many foreign students are working as interns in the office of Gangdong-gu and they are provided with opportunities to experience and understand Korean society under the name of ‘global internship’. The program’s purpose was not only for giving foreign students chances to experience administration of local government but also to foster global spirit in the administration service. The 2nd global internship program held in last winter vacation got a lot of interest, having more than 122 foreign students from over 33 countries applying for the program. 8 foreign students were picked at last breaking through the high competition rate of 15. Students from several countries such as Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Kenya, Hungary, and China came to Korea to study and they spoke different languages and had diverse skin colors. Moreover, Gangdong-gu is putting efforts to help foreign students find jobs that best fit them and provide information on areas where they can utilize their talent and profession.
