Subject Gangdong District operates " Earth Hour "

Gangdong District Office in Seoul said on Friday that it operated Earth Hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour is a global event that started in 2007 in Sydney to alert the world to the severity of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through one hour light off. The global light-out event has implemented three phases of lights out to minimize inconvenience in living conditions. Public institutions were required to participate obligatorily, while large buildings and apartments with more than 500 households were encouraged to participate, while general stores and private households voluntarily participated. Public offices, such as district offices, public health offices, council offices, and community centers, turned off the lights inside and outside the building; also the signs and lighting inside the building were turned off and only used indoor lights. Private households turned off their indoor lights and outdoor lamp, but the TV watching was available. On the other hand, the county held the 80th Gangdong Greenway Walking Festival under the theme “Earth Hour Day “at Iljisan Grass Plaza from 7:40 a.m. on the same day, and starting at 4 p.m., it conducted street campaigns centered on Rodeo Drive near Cheonho Station.”The event is significant in that it responds to climate change and contributes to international cooperation, “said Lee Hae-sik, head of the district office. During the one-hour period from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. on the same day, Seoul's landmarks such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Sungnyemun Gate, Namsan N Tower, and 63 Building also participated this campaign.
