Subject Gangdong-gu, participates in the Earth Hour campaign

Gangdong-gu(Chief Lee Hae-Shik) announced to participate in the Earth Hour event held in March 24th, 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Earth Hour is a global event that started in Sydney in 2007, in order to raise awareness about the seriousness of climate change, and to reduce the emission of green house gases. It is an international campaign to deliver a message about the importance and need for action regarding climate change through the 1 hour light-out.

In this years Earth Hour event, in order to minimize citizen's inconveniences, Gangdong-gu will suggest 3 steps on building light-out. Public institutions must participate, and large buildings or apartments with more than 500 houses are recommended to participate, and lastly normal stores and houses can participate freely.

In this day, including the Gangdong-gu office building, the health center, district council, community center, the public offices will turn off the lights inside and out the buildings including lighting for scenery for 1 hour. Large buildings should turn off the signs, and lighting for scenery completely, and use the light inside. For houses, people should turn off the lights inside and outside lights completely and can watch television.

Furthermore, Gangdong-gu will host the '80th Gangdong Greenway walking competition' in the theme of 'Earth Hour' in Mountain Il-ja Lawn Plaza in the 24th, from 7:40 a.m. and will also host a street campaign mainly in the Rodeo street near Cheonho-station.

Chief Lee Hae-Shik of Gangdong-gu said "The Earth Hour has a big meaning in that it actively contributes to international cooperation and act to climate change as a leader." He also added "I wish you all to participate in the 1 hour light-off Earth Hour event for the Earth".
