Gangdong-gu(Lee Haesik) will soon conduct safety checks on 572 large and medium-sized buildings over 2,000 square meters by April 15th, in order to prevent large-scale damage such as a fire in Jecheon sports center in Chungbuk last December and a fire in Miyang-Sejong hospital in January 2018. The maintenance inspection of these buildings has been carried out in the first half of every year. However, the inspection period was shortened by two months in order to actively cope with the continuing large fire. The city organized a joint inspection team with the construction society of Gangdong-gu and started safety check from January 25th. By March 16th, 504 midsize buildings and 68 large buildings will be checked by April 15th. During the inpsection, main points such as whether the evacuation facility is closed or damaged, whether it is suitable for maintenance such as evacuation passage, whether it is suitable for evacuation regulations such as fire fighting block, fire door, unauthorized act such as change of usage. In addition, whether the maintenance is proper such as the conditions of elevators, escalators, and the installation of the facilities that conflict with evacuation, fire prevention and safety will be visually checked. As a result of the inspection, the minor matters such as accumulating goods in the evacuation passage will be corrected in the field. If it is identified as a violation building such as unauthorized reconstruction, it will be voluntarily resolved within a certain period. In case of the building that still hasn't resolved, strong administrative measures such as fines and management will be implemented according to the aministrative standards.
