Subject Making Sustainable ‘Kangdong Education City’ with Customized Education Business Supports

Gangdong-gu Office head Lee Hae-sik supported education expenses of 9.1 billion won this year for 90 kindergartens, primary, secondary and special schools in Seoul to create a sustainable welfare education city. It increased its budget by approximately 4 % compared to 2017 to proactively respond to the changing educational environment and to support school education systematically.

The county has been striving to provide high-quality education services reflected the voice of students, parents and schools. The Commission held ‘2018 Education Security Assistance Advisory Council’ on December 21-22, orienting 43 elementary, middle, special schools, and 33 kindergarten. Also, it held ‘Educational Security Council’ on February 9th to decide details in supporting business for each school.

In 2018, the budget for safe school environment development and specialized programs by school increased by 460 million won from last year, allowing for the promotion of customized education programs that match the characteristics of schools. It needs to replace outdated school broadcast equipment and improve cafeteria facilities to provide comfort food to keep up with the growing importance of multimedia and information education. It also provides a wide range of programs including reading discussion, one-person learning of instruments, and post-school activation of classroom.

The Gangdong Innovation Education Zone project, which is in the fourth year, is also continued. About 1.5 billion won will be invested to carry out 34 projects in the following areas : community-school-related projects, adolescent autonomy activities, civil and specialized regional operations. This year, the school plans to provide elementary school caring class and traditional games linked to primary school classrooms, career courses in transition, and choose courses for the free-learning semester in junior high school, with teachers in the community, to ensure the universality of innovative education.
