Gangdong-gu (Lee Hae sik, the head of Gangdong-gu) will implement a free health examination for 555 children and workers who are participating in the local children's center form 19th to 27th. This health examination is being carried out in connection with Gangnam branch of the Korea Health Management Association. Since 2007, Gangdong-gu has been analyzed health problems including childhood obesity and utilized the results for the project to promote the health promotion project of children at the vulnerable goups. Clinical pathologists and health care center officials visit the sites directly to examine 37 items such as childhood obesity, blood sugar, total cholesterol, blood pressure, and pinworms, etc and identify major diseases including obesity, diabetes, anemia, kidney disease, and pinworms. The results will be provided to local child centers and health centers during April, and the children in health risks groups are going to be consulted at the centers. As children grow into socially and economically vulnerable environments during periods of robust physical development, they often fail to get sufficient nutrition. This can lead to poor development or obesity and furthermore, even chronic diseases in adulthood. To prevent these problems, Gangdong-gu conducted a variety of health promotion projects consistently in connection with local resources such as children's obesity prevention " moving classrooms. " As a result, 2017 the children's obesity rate in Gangdong-gu was 20.2 % that shows 1.2 % decline from last year, which means the childhood obesity prevention project and physical activity programs are effective. Lee Hae sik, the head of the Gangdong-gu, said," We plan to figure out the level of children health and support the systematic health programs to prevent the health problems like obesity, " adding, " By practising Gangdong-gu children's health habits, we will help for everybody to grow actively and healthy. |
