Subject Gangdong-Gu's youth assembly

Lee Hae Shik, the head of Gangdong-Gu said they will hold a temporary meeting for youth assembly on January 13th. Here they will discuss about agendas for 'open parliament' which will be held on May.

Gangdong-Gu youth assembly has always opened an open assembly on May each year. The purpose of open assembly was to increase communication between older generations, children and teenagers. Here, they will suggest policies that standing committees made regarding education, culture, human rights, safety and welfare to the residents and agencies concerned. Residents will have the chance to share thoughts on those policies.

In this temporary meeting, they will decide on topics for the policies they will suggest at the open assembly. Also, they will determine the direction of standing committee's activities. For this occasion, members of youth assembly will look through the commitments they made during the election and will also go over suggestion made at the 'Communities for youth' debate last November.

In 2016, Gangdong-Gu enacted 'organization of Seoul Gangdong-Gu youth assembly and ordinance' and has been operating the youth assembly ever since. Nine to eighteen year olds are selected for the members of youth assembly through election.

The youth assembly has been spontaneously participating for not only school's student councils but also for the community. It also participated as a representative of children/teenagers in the currently active event, 'Communication between Gangdong-Gu and residents' . Here they brought many suggestions such as 'reorganizing trails around Gleen Park', 'arranging measures to reduce fine dust around rebuilding sites in Myungil, Goduk, Sangil' and 'Increasing teachers for debate education'.
