Gangdong-gu’s New Pedestrians First Road in Amsa
Regulation of speed of cars and installments of traffic safety facilities, and pavements.
Walking condition in Amsa road of Gangdong-gu has been highly improved. Gangdong-gu (Lee Hae Sik, the head officer) has created a pedestrians first road in about 200m of Amsa road of Amsa-dong.
The purpose of the project of constructing the pedestrians first road is to prevent traffic accidents and to enhance pedestrians’ secureness and convenience. Amsa Road, a section of the road that connects Amsa 1-dong in east-westward direction and an 800-meter stretch of road, faces the road that leads to an area with high traffic risk. Gangdong-gu limited the speed of cars throughout Amsa road and installed traffic safety facilities including signs regulating the speed. Also, new paved road and colorful images were introducted in 200m from the entry of Amsa general market, in order to induce the cars to slow down. The colors and design of the pavement were decided with convergence of the residents’ opinions. The rest of the pavement, about 650m, is to be conducted in the first half of next year.
Gangdong-gu is expecting residents to walk around pleasantly and anticipating the prevention of safety accidents and the activation of stores nearby. Officials said, “We will continue to discover the places lack of nice walking environment to expand the security of pedestrians.” Besides, Gangdong-gu is making a versatile effort in school zone safety street, Cheon-ho stationery street and improvement of LED traffic signs to secure the pedestrians.
