Seoul Gangdong-gu (Lee Hae sik, the head of District office) will open the event, ‘2017 Winter Solstice Hanmadang Festival’, at community kitchen garden of Myung-il Neighborhood Park at noon to 4 pm on December 16th.
‘2017 Winter Solstice Hanmadang Festival’ is planned to have the time for tenant farmers and residents to communicate and share with one another, closing the year of 2017 and welcoming Musul-Nyun of 2018.

People can experience various traditional food items, such as red bean latte, red bean rice cake, roasted hot sweet potato and fish cake soup that are the delicacies in winter, Dongchimi that is made with the indigenous cabbage, pumpkin porridge and herbal tea together with Dongji Patjuk(red bean porridge), the iconic food of Winter Solstice.
Traditional plays will also be prepared for everyone regardless of age and gender. Beekeeping experience to make honey tea, making red bean doll, woodcraft experience to make traditional play tools, playing Yut and throwing Tuho are some of them.

We can also participate in a small kitchen garden concert, a kitchen garden word, breaking a gourd, printing a Winter Solstice amulet, and writing a Winter Solstice wish. Particularly, there will be a children’s play for Winter Solstice and a dance performance at the small kitchen garden concert, so that people can have a much entertaining time.

“I hope many residents to join the events and enjoy our traditional seasonal customs having warm Dongji Patjuk altogether, and wish everyone a happy new year for 2018“ said Lee Hae sik, the head of District office.
