Subject Gangdong-Gu receives award at '2017 The Green World Awards'

On December 11th, Gangdong-Gu received silver medal at the '2017 The Green World Awards' which was held in Dubai, Arab Emirates. 'The Green World Awards' is an international competition held every year by U.K's non-profit organization, 'The Green Organization'. Here, they give awards to best eco-friendly services or products.

This year, Gangdong-Gu was selected for silver medal winner for its '2020 One Vegetable Garden per Family' project. It was recognized as a project that contributes to building sustainable ecological city and promoting eco-friendly urban agriculture. This project is aimed to increase vegetable gardens within the jurisdiction with the goal of having one vegetable garden per family by 2020. Gangdong-Gu has also won gold medal on November last year for the same project.

Since 2009, Gangdong-Gu has promoted different kinds of businesses related to the environment. It managed environmental friendly urban vegetable garden which was the largest one in Seoul. Furthermore, it ran local food businesses such as eco-friendly agricultural farmers market along with festivals and expositions related to urban agriculture. It even managed bee raising farms in the city. Gangdong-Gu is sparing no cost on providing resources for indoor and outdoor vegetable gardens and diverse urban agricultural education which is aimed to help residents get urban agriculture within their reach.

The head of the Gangdong-Gu, Lee HaeShik who is also working as 2017 World Green Ambassador said that "I'm very honored and happy that the effort we put into eco-friendly businesses for the past years and their outcome are recognized worldwide." He also mentioned that they'll work harder continuously to become the role model for other cities as well.
