Subject A professional cafe for adoption of abandoned dogs

A professional café called " Gangdong Reborn center" which for the adoption of abandoned dogs was opened in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, on August 24, and it was the first local government to open its door.

Only 48 percent of the abandoned dogs are returned to their owners or adopted, and the remaining 52 percent of the abandoned dogs are kept in protective custody for 15 days, and if the owners don't appear they are euthanized. Thus Gangdong-gu established the professional abandoned dog-adoption café, 'Gangdong Reborn Center'. In here, Reborn implies by adopting, the animals can not only newly born but also restrains the animal and its owner through ‘ education ’.

Lee-Hae-Sik, the head of a district office, said "The Gangdong Reborn center was established as an open space for locals' favorite café and removed existing prejudices of animal protection center. Due to the increased accessibility, it is expected that there will be a positive effect on the improvement of the dog population."

It is the first time for a human animal shelter to be created as a cultural space, like anyone else can enjoy. In the Gangdong Reborn center, the Center protects the organic and lost animals in a certain period of time, while continuing to educate the owner of the basic animal and problem behavior for the pet owner. Those who want to adopt must train for five weeks.

The center is a two-story building with a floor space of 494.96 square meter and on the first floor, there are 'playground for the abandoned dogs', coffee shop, 'gangdong adoption center for abandoned dogs' which can accommodate 20 to 25 dogs. On the second floor, there is a space for ‘ adoption and education consultation ’. The third and third floors are used as a venue for " Gangdong Seoul-World Action Program " and " Behavioral Expert Training. " The tuition fee for the five weeks is 20,000 won, including snacks and teaching expenses, and 30 to 30 students are operating 24 hours a day.

The Gangdong ribbon center operates 24 hours a day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and is restricted to the public on Mondays.
