The district office of Gangdong-gu provided air filtering plants for local daycare centers, elementary schools and nursing homes The district office of Gangdong-gu provided air filtering plants for local facilities such as daycare centers, elementary schools and nursing homes in order to protect health of those vulnerable to air pollution resulting from fine dust. Air filtering plants have been provided for fifteen local facilities such as daycare centers, elementary schools and nursing homes, all of which are close to local reconstruction sites turning out lots of air pollutants. Moreover, in daycare centers and elementary schools, Clean Air Zones are designated for the purpose of taking special care of children. In Clean Air Zones, more than ten air filtering plants are intensively placed and signs are visibly posted to notify people of their existence. The district office said “Air filtering plants such as anthurium, peace lily and fatsia have air purifying capacity as great as electronic air purifiers” and also said “Recently people are getting more and more interested in growing air filtering plants due to various merits those plants have. For example, people can grow such plants indoors and they don’t have to spend much of their time to grow those plants”. Lee Hae Sik, head of Gandong-gu office indicated that air filtering plants are well known not only for their air cleaning capacity but also for their positive impact on humans through alleviating mental stresses. He also said that children at daycare centers and elementary schools together with senior citizens at nursing homes were expected to gain sounder mind and healthier body through growing air filtering plants. |
