Subject Gandong Art Center

Since the opening in 2011, the Gangdong Art Center has achieved about 900 performances with over 630,000 audiences and it has occupied 76.6% of audience share. Achieving high records, it has begun to be recognized as an ideal performance center at other local communities like Busan, Incheon and Gwangju. First of all, the Gangdong Art Center is one of the concert halls that has been recognized to be well equipped even though it is being run by a local community. The concert hall consists of proscenium stage where audiences from their seats can see the stage well, a stage named ‘black box stage’ where directors can freely organize the performance and also art gallery, studio, and some convenient facilities. The waiting room, makeup room, shower booth and dress room are located to suit the casts’ convenience and they play important roles for artists to use our auditorium. There is also an art academy where citizens can not only enjoy the performances but also they can learn the acting and even participate in it. The modern dance program for mothers who are working in home is especially popular since they can get out of stressful things and learn to express themselves and communicate with others by dancing. The programs are also held up for office workers who cannot participate in morning classes and anyone who is interested in performance and dancing can participate freely. Those who come to participate in this program are able to listen to his or her inner voices and communicate with their neighbors. By translating the feeling you feel and your thoughts into art can relieve the daily stresses and become the turning point of your life even. The Gandong Art center will work on to lower the threshold of art facilities and turn it into a place where local community members can heal their bodies and minds.
