Incidence of non-communicable diseases(NCDs) such as high blood pressure and diabetes have risen dramatically in the Republic of Korea over the past decade. These diseases can be treated with the help of a healthy lifestyle and proper exercise.

Since 2008, the Gang-dong District has been providing prevention services for NCDs through the 'Healthy 100s Counseling Centres'. These centers help the prevention and management of NCDs and helps residents maintain a healthy lifestyle

Healthy 100s Counselling Centres are a mini healthcare centers installed in 18 parts of Gang-dong. Each is staffed by professional nurses, who check residents' blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol rates and record them on a computerized system.

Since its opening in the December of 2008, the center is managing 31.3% of the residents who are over 30 years-old, and has an average of 434 visitors a day. Also, users are showing high satisfaction rates as the center provides many sports clubs and give people an opertunity to communicate with their fellow residents, move and improve their health at the same time.

The centres have caught the eye of the World Health Organization (WHO), and has been introduced on the WHO website as 'Community-based NCD prevention in the Republic of Korea'. Also, it was chosen as an innovative healthcare service and has been benchmarked by healthcare experts in countries such as Japan, China and Vietnam.

Other than the centres, our district has also opened the Gangdong Health Management Center on the 1st floor of the public healthcare center, in which residents can get a doctor's inspection and professional advice on nutrition, exercise, stress, etc. The center is also linked with local medical institutions for people who need further examinations.
