Subject Gangdong-gu, Wednesday Walkings with colleagues at lunchtime

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Hye Shik) is encouraging employees to walk for 30 minutes every Wednesday so that they can exercise with their work colleagues during lunchtime.

Walking is the most basic physical activity that can prevent the metabolic syndrome and chronic
diseases caused by lack of exercise by improving circulation and respiration.

Recently, Gangdong-gu has installed and operating 'Walking traffic light signboard's in 18 residents' centres in order to make walking be a daily routine for its residents. That was made to provide opportunities for local residents to motivate themselves by comparing their walking exercise performances to their previous records.

In addition to this, we are encouraging people to participate in a 30-minute day walk using lunchtime for busy workers who have difficulty in taking care of their health.

Gangdong-gu office employees, who are positive in walking, gather around under Gangdong Public Health Centre rattan every Wednesday during lunch, and stretch and walk around Gangdong Street and Olympic Park.

"It is important to habitually walk a few times in daily life, such as getting off the bus early and walking down a few stops, parking and walking as far as possible or using stairs instead of elevators," said an official. "By walking 30 minutes a day, we can have time to communicate and harmonize with each other, which is expected to lead to improved work efficiency.”
