Subject Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival receives the Pinnacle Award for the 4th year in a row

The local "Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival" received the "Pinnacle Award" (given out by the World Festival Association) for the fourth year in a row. The Pinnacle Award awards the most competitive festivals around the world in 5 categories (33 sub-categories). It was established in 1987, and it is often referred to as the "Olympics of Events and Festivals."

This festival has received Pinnacle Awards in the past; 5 categories in 2014, 3 categories in 2015 and 2016. In the 2017 Pinnacle Awards, however, the festival won the gold prize two categories: Best Promotion Brochure and Best Programs for Children.

From the four consecutive years' awards, the Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival has been publicly proven to be not only a local but also an internationally-recognized festival.

The festival, which is held yearly at the Seoul Amsa-dong prehistoric site, is a very unique festival in which people can experience the lives of their predecessors during the prehistoric times. It also helps connect the past with the future, so it is a very meaningful festival.

This year is the 22nd anniversary of the festival. The festival, which is the only festival in Seoul to experience the Neolithian times, will be held for three days, on the 13th to the 15th of October.

The district office head, (Lee Hae-Sik) stated "I believe the Prehistoric Culture Festival has evolved to a worldwide festival from its 4 years' awards, and I will keep on working to further develop it into a cultural-tourism festival representative of Korea." and also said that he will continue working to "register the Amsa-dong prehistoric site as a globally-renowned World Heritage Site."
