Subject Gangdong-gu will start paying national veterans honors affair allowance

On September 17th, Seoul-si Gang dong-gu announced that they will start to pay veteran affairs honors allowance in order to honorably treat and support national veteran affairs recipients who had sacrificed themselves and contributed for the nation.
Gangdong-gu have amended some points of “Ordinance about treatment and support for Seoul Gang dong-gu national veteran affairs recipient ” in order to prepare legal ground for paying veteran affairs honors allowance.
Accordingly, starting January, 2018, national veteran affairs recipients who have lived in Gang dong-gu for more than 3 months will receive 3 million won per month.
Now there are approximately 4900 national veteran affairs recipients who are living in Gang dong-gu. Except war-veterans who are receiving veteran affairs honors allowance for Seoul-si, approximately 3100 national veteran affairs recipients will get benefit from it.
By the way, this year’s Gang dong-gu’s veteran affairs budget is about 630,000,000 won, which is seventh among 25 borough. However, starting to pay veteran affairs allowance, new budget of 1,116,000,000 won was given, so next year’s budget will be about 1,800,000,000 won, which is second in scale among Seoul-si’s borough(the first is Seo cho-gu).
Lee Hae-Sik Gang dong alderman said “I think patriots and veterans’ noble sacrifice and contribution made today’s magnificent democratic Korea. In spite of shortage in budget, the reason we have decided to pay national veteran affairs allowance is to deliver our gratitude for patriots and veterans. Even from now on, we will do our best in honorable treatment and support for patriots and veterans.”
