Subject 71 Days of Gangdong-gu Middle School Students’ Sports League Begins

On September 2nd, Gangdong-gu (the head officer is Lee Hae Sik) is holding an opening ceremony in Cheonho Middle School’s schoolyard with 300 middle school students attending. Schools and students participating in this sports league are going to have games for 71 days, starting with the opening ceremony.

Games will be proceeded in league format and the final match is going to be held on November 11th in Dongmyung Neighborhood Park. Gangdong-gu is hosting ‘Gangdong-gu Middle School Students’ Sports League’ every year to enhance the students’ physical strength, to reduce their stress and to cultivate nice personalities by participating in sports activities.

Especially last year, the sports have been varied, from 2 events consisting of football and kickball to 5 including basketball, dodge ball and badminton in order to promote teenagers’ physical activities and reduce the obesity rate.

Lee Hae Sik, the head officer of Gangdong-gu, said that “Gangdong-gu is trying to make an active living conditions as it is the head city of ‘Korea Healthy Cities Partnership(KHCP)’. According to a survey conducted in 2016 shows that teenage obesity is in a serious situation as obesity rates have been increasing 5.1% for 9 years since 2007. Gangdong-gu will work versatilely for the youth, who are the leaders of our future, to prevent obesity, relieve stress, reduce academic stress and develop good personality.”
