Subject The 5th social survey of Gangdong-gu

Gangdong-gu will conduct a 'social survey' from September 4th to 19th in order to assimilate its residents' social concerns and opinions on the living environment and use them as basic data gathering for new policy formulation.

Gangdong-gu conducts social surveys every two years to provide rational basic data on long-term or short-term policy formulation, focusing on daily living and satisfaction centered on residential area. the social survey of Gangdong-gu was first conducted in 2009 and is the fifth survey this year.

The subjects to be surveyed are all household members aged 15 and over in 2,000 households throughout Gandong-gu. In the last 2015 survey, 4,559 people of 2,000 households participated.
This survey is conducted by 45 researchers employed by Gangdong-gu who visit directly each house as an interview method. It consists of 87 items in 10 categories including housing, living, education, transportation, economy, women and family, health and welfare, culture and leisure, public administration, old life and others. The details of the survey responses are used only for statistical purposes.

The results of the social survey are used as basic data for establishing various policies and promoting the project. Gangdong-gu Office will publish the survey result report in December 2017 and post it on the internet homepage of Gangdong-gu to notify residents.

A ward official said "The social survey is to improve the quality of life for residents and create a better living Gangdong-gu" and "when a surveyor visits your house, please confirm his or her identity and take active part in the social survey"

[My opinion]
After this social survey is done, the basic and objective gender statistics should be produced to enable a gender-cognitive approach to policy formulation, enforcement, and performance evaluation. Gender statistical data shows the realities of the lives of women and men, and of girls and boys. furthermore, they are also critical for effective monitoring and analyses of gender gains and gaps.
So I hope Gangdong-gu policymakers utilize gender statistical data for gender equality when they formulate and monitor policies and programs
