GwangJin-gu and Gangdong-gu becomes one at Gangdong bridge Gwangjin-gu and Gangdong-gu is very close that they are adjoined by a bridge. Gwangjin-gu and Gangdong-gu’s head borough office met just as the meeting of the two love-stars(it is a story that lovers Gyeon woo and Jik nyeo who can only meet each other once in a year) and hosted ‘Gwangjin bridge festival’ to bring upon attachment and harmony between resident in Gwangjin-gu and Gangdong-gu in 26, August. The highlight of the festival was ‘Gijisi tug-of-war’ which took place from 6pm. Gijisi tug-of-war has been continued traditionally for over 500 years which represents the harmony of community. It was marked as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO IN 1982. Thick rope and tug-of-war rope which is formed with double row are over 50 meters in length and 5tons in weight and they were moved from Gisijili. To embody a bridge which Gyeon woo and Jik nyeo crossed, residence of Gwangjin-gu wearing black, and the residenece of Gangdong-gu wearing white, over one thousand by the number, played tug-of-war at the opposing side not to win over each other but to become one, happily enjoying the game. Besides famous singer, Hong jinyeong, teen festival, Gwangjin-gu’s main B-BOY MB crew, kite club performed for the celebration. Many enjoyed these performances other performances also created hot atmosphere. Also, for safety, safety lines were placed and safety men who volunteered stood around. Kim Gidong, Gwangjin-gu’s head borough officer commented that it was a meaningful time for people living within both area could enjoy. |
