Introduing 'HYMUN 2017' Min Heejin Today, I would like to introduce a fabulous event that took place in 한영외고 just on 8/16 ~ 8/17. The event is called 'HYMUN 2017.' HYMUN is the abbreviation form of Hanyoung Model United Nations. It is a english debate program where students are designated a country and are told to represent that nation throughout the whole debate session. Well, aside HYMUN's very many special purposes, its ultimate goal is to provide a great opportunity where students get to know a specific country through a lot of research, and especially on one specific topic. In HYMUN, there were 12 different committees, each with very distinctive styles and areas, all of them being extremely exciting and significant. The committees were GA1, GA2. SC, UNHRC, UNODC, UN WOMEN, UNEP, UNESCO, UNICEF, FAO, ECOSOC, and WHO. Each committee has its own specialized field. For example, the agenda for the committee GA1, which specialized in the usage of weapons, was the prevention of illegal trafficking of small arms and light weapons. In addition, the agenda for the committee UNHRC, which specialized in the protection of human rights, was ways to prohibit human trafficking, which is an extremely serious and urgent issue to be solved. In addition, the committee UNHRC also had the chance to discuss the issue of LGBTQ, which is a very serious issue nowadays. Although citizens of nations that take a libertized stance and belief towards LGBTQ issues might think that every person respects the right to love who we want, that's quite different from our reality. In realtiy, it is undeniable fact that in regions such as in the middle east, discrimination against women is still prevalent in the society, and they can not even dream of dating the same gender. Therefore, the committee UNHRC had the burden to come out with very practical and realistic solutions in order to alleviate the opposing voice and find ways to protect the rights of LGBTQs all around the world. As a student who is attending 한영외고, I would like to highly recommend the readers a similar experience! |
