Subject Gangdong Art Center: Ice Ballet Show "Sleeping Beauty"

On the 10th and 11th of August, the Saint-Petersburg Ballet on Ice group performed at the Gangdong Art Center by the Han River. The world-famous ballet group put on an outstanding performance on ice to the well-known story of "Sleeping Beauty." The artistic twist on traditional ballet proved to be entertaining to everyone in the crowd, mainly composed of young children and their parents.On top of that, the event also served as a chance for the audience to cool off in the hot summer. The whole theater was filled as the audience clapped and cheered all throughout the show.

The Saint-Petersburg Ballet on Ice group was founded in 1967, and has since been performing in various countries worldwide, including the US, Germany, the Netherlands, China and Korea. The group takes traditional Ballet by Russian composer Tchaikovsky such as "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker", and takes it on the ice, performing graceful ballet on skates. It is not the group's first time in Korea. This year, they performed to celebrate the group's 20th anniversary of performing in Korea.


One of the group's most famous pieces, "Sleeping Beauty", is what they performed at the Gangdong Art Center on the 10th and 11th. The story, which is familiar to almost everyone in Korea, tells of a princess who was cursed to fall asleep forever, and a prince who finds out about her. A classic enchanting fairy tale, "Sleeping Beauty" has captured the hearts of many children worldwide. The children who went to watch the ballet were happy to see their beloved story being enacted on such a beautiful ice rink at the Gangdong Art Center Grand Theater.
