Subject Breastfeeding Flash Mob On the 7th in the Meeting Square of Cheonho Station.

Seoul, Gangdong-gu (director, Lee Hae Sik) will hold a 'breastfeeding flash mob' at 10:30 am on the 7th in the Meeting Square of Cheonho Station at the World Breastfeeding Week (October 8.1 ~ 8.7).

It has the intention of removing the prejudices about breastfeeding and facilitating breastfeeding wherever children are hungry.

Breastfeeding is beneficial for both children and mothers.  It is important for the child to develop immunity and emotional stability and so on. Mothers also benefit from prevention of postpartum hemorrhage and prevention of ovarian cancer and breast cancer.

However, the total breastfeeding rate in Korea stood at 18.3% in 2016. This is half the world average. Lack of feeding space in public places, poor milking, poor breastfeeding due to irregular feeding, and increased social advancement of women are analyzed as the main causes.

As part of the breastfeeding awareness campaign, 20 mothers living in Gangdong-gu will participate in the flash mob. Mothers who had breastfed their children also will participate in the campaign with dolls instead of babies to emphasize the right to breastfeed in public places.

Gangdong-gu teaches people with a leaflet with the advantages of breastfeeding and successful breastfeeding methods etc. in advance of flash mob and encourages them to recognize and practice fully breastfeeding period (six months).

In addition to operating a breastfeeding bank and booths for the experience of pregnant women, it plans to map 24 breastfeeding facilities and guide to them.

"This campaign will stimulate the importance of breastfeeding and improve the awareness of breastfeeding in public places," said Gangdong-gu, director (Lee Hae Sik). "I will take the lead in improving the breastfeeding rate so that the children can breastfeed and grow healthy and happily.“
