Subject A Sign Language Education was held in the Council of Gangdong

Recently the Council of Seoul Gangdong-gu (the Chairman - Jo Dong Tak) held a sign language lecture for all members of the Council to strengthen communication with the hearing-impaired and people with speech disorders.
According to Gangdong-gu, 30th July, this lecture, which was accomplished for enhancing communication with the hearing-impaired and people with speech disorders who had had difficulties participating politics because of physical · social constraints was executed by the propositions from members of the Council.
The sign language interpretation center in Gangdong-gu headed this lecture which was composed of matters regarding understanding the language related disabled, basic words, situational daily conversation, and etc to be able to carry out simple communicative needs such as civil complaints.
The Chairman, Jo Dong Tak, mentioned that he had been moved watching his peers sincerely putting effort into constructing ‘an open, trusting, and interactive Council’ with one heart. Furthermore, he mentioned that the Council would also do its best making the society a better place for the 1700 of the hearing-impaired who struggle to be freed from social prejudice and restriction.
Meanwhile, the Council is assigning sign language interpreters and broadcasting a plenary session, starting from this March, to fulfill the right to know for the minority and provide the opportunity to equally take part in parliamentary politics. In addition, in the 244th meeting, they legislated the ‘ordinance for supporting activation of sign language in Gangdong-gu ‘, establishing institutional foundation for creating an environment friendly with the use of sign language and improving social perception.
