Seoul Gangdong-gu won the grand prize for the seventh consecutive year, winning the Grand Prize in '2017 Korea Environment Grand Prize' in the public sector 'urban agriculture'. According to Gangdong-gu on the 26th, the 12th edition of the 'Korea Environment Awards' will be hosted by the Korea Environment Committee and the Environment Media. It is a typical prize supported by The Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Government Administration, etc. After this year's examination, 21 categories were awarded, and 15 departments were selected. Gangdong-gu won the prize for recognition for its efforts for environmental preservation and sustainable social development. Gangdong-gu has won the Korea Environment Award from 2011 to the present for 7 consecutive years and solidified its status as an environmental city. Gangdong-gu has been making efforts to transform the way of life toward sustainable ecological cities through the revitalization of eco-friendly urban agriculture. For the first time in the nation, it has enacted the 'Ordinance Regarding the Activation and Support of Eco-Friendly Cities in Gangdong-gu, Seoul City' to establish an institutional basis for urban agriculture and pushed ahead step by step to promote '1 Household Building a garden' by 2020. Gangdong-gu enlarges and diversifies the area of urban agriculture as well as the urban garden, so that residents can also recognize and participate in urban agriculture more friendly. The director of Kang Dong-gu, Lee Hae Sik, said "I think it is very meaningful for me to be awarded the Korea Environment Prize for the 7th consecutive year, which promotes not only the urban agriculture of the municipalities but also the overall environment-friendly policy for sustainable development.
