Gangdong-gu ranked nationwide best in the evaluation of policy 

for the disabled in local welfare programs

-Selected as the best local government in 2022 in the national evaluation of local welfare programs in policy for the disabled

- Various efforts including the start of construction of Gangdong-gu's comprehensive welfare center for the disabled and the operation of shelters by disability type were highly praised.

 Gangdong-gu (Head: Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 27th that it was selected as the best autonomous district in the local welfare programs in policy for the disabled by the Ministry of Health and Welfare this year among the local governments nationwide.

 Ministry of Health and Welfare's annual evaluation of the local welfare programs in policy for the disabled was introduced to review the performance of each local government in promoting welfare for the disabled and to discover and spread excellent cases.

 This evaluation focused on 3 areas and 10 items with focus on the support for self-reliance of the disabled, support for services of the disabled, delivery system for welfare of the disabled as the quantitative evaluation along with evaluation of excellent policy projects. Ministry of Health and Welfare also evaluated the overall welfare for the disabled, including management of cases centered on the disabled, efforts to stably operate the consumer-oriented service delivery system for the disabled, and new local projects specific to the respective areas.

 Gangdong-gu has already been awarded as best in the first evaluation of the Ministry of Health and Welfare back in 2020, and once again was recognized for its efforts to continuously promote the leading welfare policies for the disabled. In particular, Gangdong-gu's efforts in commencing construction of Gangdong-gu's comprehensive welfare center for the disabled to provide comprehensive welfare services, providing shelters for the disabled by reflecting the characteristics of disabilities, expanding service providers for the disabled, along with other various projects to improve awareness of the disabled were highly valued.

 Gangdong-gu was also praised for its efforts to discover private resources through public-private partnerships (operation of a 3P consultative body dedicated to the disabled, a community social security consultative body, and a community rehabilitation consultative body) to manage various cases as well as its COVID-19 response.

 Lee Soo-hee, Head of Gangdong-gu Office, said, "The excellent performance in the nationwide evaluation of welfare programs for the disabled is the result of our leading efforts in the welfare of the disabled. We will continue to make even more efforts so that disabled and non-disabled people can enjoy a happy life without any discrimination."
