Gangdong-gu District Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis Runs Crisis Counseling Service for Domestic Violence

- Supports families in crisis through customized counseling services and integrated case management in connection with welfare services

- Meeting on April 21 to strengthen cooperative relationship among the integrated support systems for families in crisis

Gangdong-gu Office (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) is actively working on discovering families in crisis and providing appropriate assistance through the "Gangdong-gu District Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis," which was opened by Gangdong-gu Office in October of last year.

The Gangdong-gu District Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis is operated together by Gangdong-gu Office and Gangdong Police Station. It provides customized counseling services and a welfare service referral service through an integrated case management system to help families in crisis, such as those suffering domestic violence and abuse, quickly get back to a normal life.

A total of four professionals are permanently stationed at the center including an Anti-Abuse Police Officer (AOO), an integrated case manager, and two counselors. The related responsibilities are divided systematically among the four professionals to efficiently manage the cases and provide necessary support.

On the 21st of last month, Gangdong-gu Office held a discussion with Gangdong Police Station to strengthen their cooperative relationship for the operation of the Gangdong-gu District Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis. Through the discussion, the parties agreed to strengthen the professional skills of the operators at the center and provide an in-depth counseling service in order to reduce the recidivism rates of domestic violence.

In addition to providing the counseling service, the APO and integrated case managers at the center will visit the families on the center’s monitoring list when a police report is made on the families in order to help the initial response of police officers.

Lee Jung-hun, Mayor of Gangdong-gu Office, said, “Gangdong-gu Office and Gangdong Police Station are doing their best to make our city safe from domestic violence and abuse through organic cooperation. We are going to strengthen the local community safety net to help families restore their happiness rather than resorting to disintegration.”
