angdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) is conducting education sessions on pharmaceutical safety for children and students in daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools of the region.

According to a 2019 research by the Korea Consumer Agency, children who were poisoned by “medicinal products” took up the largest portion among those who were put at risk due to chemical products. The risk of adolescents being exposed to incorrect information on drugs through the Internet is also increasing, raising concerns over the improper use and abuse of drugs by children and adolescents as well as the side effects that may arise.

In response, the Gangdong-gu Public Health Center has dispatched a team of professional instructors consisting of pharmacists to daycare centers, kindergartens, and schools to teach the safe use of medicinal products. They are conducting education sessions on how to prevent children’s pharmaceutical accidents and how to take medicine properly including the risk of harmful drugs, such as narcotic drugs, high-caffeine drinks, and studying supplements.

With the prolonged COVID-19 situation, the classes are conducted online through video presentation or Zoom.

“We hope to prevent children's drug accidents and adolescents' improper use of drugs through this Pharmaceutical Safety Education and support health and safety for all,” Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Jung-hun said.
