15-03-2021

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) announced that, starting at 10 AM on Saturday, March 27, six city gardens (Gangil, Garaeyeoul, Amsa, Sangil, Gil-dong, and Iljasan Mountain) and Gangdong Healing Farm, a garden for the persons with disabilities, are to open.

For many, much of the outdoor activity has largely been limited due to the prolonged COVID-19 but this has explosively fueled interests in city gardens this year, fielding over 5,000 applications, from which 1,400 city farmers have been selected as participants through a fierce competition.

As a measure for preventing the spread of COVID-19, a garden opening event will not be held. For two weeks starting on March 27, the opening day, organic fertilizers as well as environment-friendly gardening brochures will be distributed individually at each of the gardens. Video training especially for novice farmers who are new to the city gardens will also be provided in addition.

An official of district office urged, "In consideration of our neighbors who use the gardens, make sure to wear masks and use the available hand sanitizers when visiting the gardens.”

In addition to public city gardens, Gangdong-gu operates a total of 6,162 lots of gardens including private community gardens and community center gardens, and provides its residents comfortable rest areas and spaces for communication among local communities, continuously striving to develop an eco-friendly environment and form a healthy leisure culture through the gardens.

Mayor Lee stated, "We wish our residents to feel the energy of spring at city gardens and hope that the gardens help restore their emotions fatigued by COVID-19. We will continue to work on to vitalize city gardens led by the residents.”
