A Checkup for Your Weary Mind - Gangdong-gu discovers and treats mental health risk factors in the early stages through mental checkups and support for counseling - Participation by 11 medical centers, three rounds of support for treatment costs for residents over the age of 19

16-02-2021

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) offers free mental checkups and counseling to discover and treat mental health risk factors in the early stages for residents experiencing depression, stress, and other psychological difficulties.

Residents of Gangdong-gu over the age of 19 who wish to receive treatment can call one of the 11 designated mental medical centers to make an appointment and present their IDs when visiting. Residents who receive treatment and counseling at a designated mental medical center will receive support for the cost of up to three rounds of treatment. However, residents who are receiving treatment from a psychiatry clinic at another medical institution (including other institutions) will not be able to receive support.

Residents will not need to be concerned when filing a health insurance claim as the treatment will be input under a general consultation code and not as a mental illness.

Once residents receive treatment, if high-risk symptoms that require treatment with medication and specialized treatment are discovered, the treatment will be switched to general treatment (requiring personal payment for treatment).

Mayor Lee Jung-hun commented, “Mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, are worsening due to the prolonged COVID-19 crisis. Residents who are experiencing psychological difficulties should not hesitate to seek treatment at the designated mental medical centers.”
