Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) will designate and operate “safe restaurants” that customers can safely visit amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A safe restaurant is one that improves the dining culture that is vulnerable to the infection and observes the disinfection/prevention measures to offer a safe and sanitary environment for dining.

General restaurants must satisfy the conditions of △providing personal plates and utensils for individual servings, △sanitarily managing utensils, △enforcing the wearing of masks by workers, △and regularly ventilating and disinfecting the restaurant.

Once a restaurant is designated as a safe restaurant after on-site inspections, the certification will be given to the business with additional support in the form of incentives like items for disinfection.

The businesses will also be registered as safe restaurants on the website of Gangdong-gu Office, Naver Map, and T Map, which is expected to contribute to business marketing and increase sales.

As the businesses will be certified by the district, the safe restaurants will be monitored continuously and managed thoroughly with on-site inspections after receiving certification.

Businesses that wish to apply as safe restaurants can download the form from the website of Gangdong-gu Office and send in their applications to the Gangdong-gu Health Sanitation Office via fax, email, or in person by December 30.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun stated, “Uneasiness about dining out is increasing due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that the operation of safe restaurants will create a safe dining environment that Gangdong-gu residents can trust and where they can dine in addition to revitalizing the restaurant industry that is suffering from decrease in sales.
