Citizens can meet fresh agricultural products produced in Goheung, Jeollanam-do Province, at “SingSing-Dream,” direct local food stores for eco-friendly farm produce operated by Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung Hun) from this September.

SingSing-Dream (922 Dongnam-ro), which was opened in 2013, is striving to activate local food under the slogan of “Gangsangangso,” meaning consuming Gangdong products in Gangdong.

Apart from its regionally produced environmentally friendly farm produce, SingSing-Dream also sells farm products produced in local governments with which Gangdong-gu has sisterhood relationships to diversify items and boost urban and rural co-prosperity. Five items from Goheung – dried seaweed, stir-fried dried laver, laver, yuzu tea and pomegranate – are sold at SingSing-Dream stores since the beginning of this month.

Operators of SingSing-Dream stores transport farm produce from agricultural households every morning and display and sell them after undergoing residual pesticide tests, dividing and packaging the products. They have an ecofriendly local food trading system linking producers with consumers directly without the drudgery of complicated distribution channels.

Amid growing interest in safe food, an increasing number of residents look for fresh and cheap eco-friendly farm products. The accumulated number of SingSing-Dream visitors reached 327,000 until last year with accumulated sales exceeding KRW 2.2 billion.

SingSing-Dream, supplying safe food to consumers and offering stable markets to farm households producing eco-friendly goods, was selected as the “2019 excellent direct trading market of agricultural products,” which was certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Jung Hun said, “This has the effect of killing two birds with one stone by helping farm households enduring difficulties due to COVID-19 and providing residents with various eco-friendly farm products.” He added, “I’ll do my best to supply sustainable safe food to residents in the future.”

“SingSing-Dream” stores inside Gangdong-gu’s Urban Agriculture Support Center are in operation from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays with the operating time for Saturday set from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed on Sundays and holidays)
