Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung Hun) is increasing its support for the repair of mobility aids for the disabled in order to ensure their right of mobility and enhance their convenience. Mobility aids include manual and electric wheelchairs and electric mobility scooters.

On July 20 (Monday), a meeting was held on the third floor of the Gangdong-gu Office (Mayor Lee Jung Hun) with Carpos Gangdong-gu Branch (Director Kim Gyeong-cheon), an association specializing in car maintenance. They signed an agreement for the repair of mobility aids, and decided to cooperate with each other for promoting welfare for the disabled.

Under the agreement, Carpos will be carrying out volunteer work for the repair of mobility aids this year after being qualified as a repair business. Carpos is required to obtain a license for medical instrument repair business and complete necessary training programs, and Gangdong-gu will be giving its full support to finally carry out this project together.

Once Carpos obtains the license and works on the project, the accessibility to repair will be improved and more persons with disabilities will be benefited. This project will expand its beneficiaries from the disabled in the vulnerable social group—recipient of basic livelihood benefits and the second-lowest income bracket—to general persons with disabilities who are using mobility aids registered in Gangdong-gu.

Since Carpos will be volunteering to provide the repair service, no fee will be charged. Gangdong-gu will support up to KRW 100,000 a year for general persons with disabilities, and up to KRW 200,000 for the disabled in the vulnerable social group.

Mayor Lee Jung Hun said, “Mobility aids are the feet of the disabled. We hope that our support for the repair of mobility aids will lessen their financial burden and enhance their mobility conveniences. We will continue our support for the disabled in order to encourage their social participation and enhance their quality of life.”
