27-05-2020

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) will select and begin operation of five "eco-friendly childcare centers" in June to realize an eco-friendly nature-, play-, and child-centered childcare curriculum.

Last month, the district participated in the "2020 Eco-Friendly Childcare Center" project contest and was selected as one of the final six autonomous districts to operate this project.

The eco-friendly childcare center will stray away from the existing structured childcare curriculum to create childcare programs and environments that guarantee children their right to play without restrictions on time or space. This project will realize eco-friendly childcare that pursues "childlikeness."

In mi-May, Gangdong-gu will select five base childcare centers to participate in the ecologically friendly childcare center project and officially begin operation in June.

Childcare centers that are selected for this project will receive professional consulting in the five areas of space, living, childcare curriculum, child-teacher relationships, and health and safety, in addition to improvements made to create childcare centers that are fit for eco-friendly nurturing, such as support for improving indoor environments.

Furthermore, the district plans to operate a research group for childcare teachers, parents, and experts of childcare centers in addition to the five base childcare centers for quality improvement of eco-friendly childcare and development of the eco-friendly childcare centers.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun stated, “Eco-friendly childcare is most appropriate for children to grow as energetic children. We will put in our utmost efforts for the eco-friendly childcare center project to take root iso our children can grow with health and happiness.”
