At 2:00 p.m. on April 9, Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) will be the first local government body to open a 3D virtual remote learning system, which will be called “Gangdong E-Studio.“ The E-Studio will support both students and teachers who are experiencing online schooling for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Online schooling has been received with uneasiness by students and parents who have no experience with online learning. Teachers are also experiencing difficulties with teaching conditions due to a lack of materials offered by schools, in addition to the need to film online classes with personal cell phones. Therefore, Gangdong-gu will be the first local government body to open the “Gangdong E-Studio,“ which is equipped with a 3D virtual remote learning system, to support the success of online schooling and classes. The studio will feature 12 VR (virtual reality)/AR (augmented reality) screens, 3 virtual monitors, a 3D virtual reality studio, 4 HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), real-time broadcasts, recordings, and subtitle devices. The district plans to open the studio to the teachers of 60 elementary, middle, and high schools to offer support in creating content for online classes and organizing real-time remote learning classes through videos. Various online content will be developed and operated for high school seniors, such as preparation for college entrance exams and counseling for choosing majors, creative activities like reading and debate, as well as other content for choosing one’s career path, higher education, and learning to minimize the learning gap. Mayor Lee Jung-hun stated, “We hope that the Gangdong E-Studio will guarantee students’ right to learn and lessen the burden for schools and teachers taking part in online schooling. With the opening of the Gangdong E-Studio, we will gradually construct a Gangdong-type Smart Educatiol System where students who want to learn can have access to educational content and attain necessary information, anytime and anywhere.” The Gangdong E-Studio (2F, 395, Gucheonmyeon-ro, Gangdong-gu) will hold its opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on April 9, the first day of online classes. Mayor Lee Jung-hun of Gangdong-gu and the principal of Seongdeok High School will be present at the opening ceremony. A teacher of Seongdeok High School will personally give a demonstration for creating online content for classes and remote learning through a video class in real time.
