Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) was selected as an excellent district for two consecutive years at the ‘Seoul sewage odor reduction assessment in autonomous districts.’ The district was recognized for its efforts in promoting the odor reduction project for 351 200-gallon septic tanks, improving 25 facilities in areas with constant sewage odor, and removing stench in the city.

The ‘sewage odor reduction assessment’ attempts to address residential inconvenience resulting from sewage and septic tank odor in addition to creating a pleasant residential environment. The assessment was given in the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul in fourteen indices, eleven categories, and the four categories of facility installment and improvement, management and inspection, education and publicity, and others for facilities open from October 2018 to September of this year.

The district scored high in the installment and operation of air supply equipment that reduces septic tank odor, improvement of sewage water disposal facilities outside sewage disposal areas, and its leading inspection of personal sewage disposal facilities. The district received 87 points out of 100 and was selected as an excellent district.

The district will present its excellent case on the theme of ‘Improving Sewage Water Disposal Facilities Outside Sewage Disposal Areas’ and receive commendations for institutions and personnel along with an incentive of KRW 6.3 million at the ‘Sewage Odor Reduction Awards Ceremony and Debate’ to take place at a FIRST Hotel in Seoul on December 3 (Tues.) at 3 p.m.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun of Gangdong-gu stated, “I am pleased that we were selected as an excellent district in reducing sewage odor for two years in a row. I hope that this award will lead to the creation of a stench-free and more pleasant city environment to become ‘Gangdong with the No. 1 environment.’”
